The Speed Indicator Device (SID) was used again on the weekend of the Goodwood 73rd Members Meeting - 21st to 22nd March, on both the Saturday and the Sunday between 8.00am and 10.00am.
During those two hours on Saturday, 1,001 vehicles were counted driving through the village, of which 18 decided to exceed the 30 mph speed limit, the fastest travelling at 43mph.
On Sunday 825 vehicles passed through during the same period, of which 22 decided to ignore the 30mph limt, the worst hitting 50mph. Also on Sunday there was a high volume of horse boxes on the road. These caused big tail backs and kept the speed down.
Over the weekend nearly all those ignoring the limit were young drivers and many drivers gave a "thumbs up " with only one giving an opposite sign.
Very few bikers passed through Cocking, and they were contained in slower traffic.
David Imlach who is orgaising the use of SID hopes to have SID back for May 2nd, which is the first of the Goodwood Breakfast meetings.
