It has taken over two years and a lot of determination to overcome many obstacles, but a SID (Speed Indicating Device) has at last made its first appearance in Cocking.
Here we see Councillor David Imlach and fellow villager Angus Manson, members of a team of volunteers, manning the device which they have set up by the Children's Playground on the southbound lane of the A286 in Cocking. The device will remain in Cocking for the rest of the month and return thereafter, every two to three months. The team hope that it wll make a significant contribution towards eliminating the chronic problem of speeding through the village.
Our first image shows that a minority of drivers will ignore the speed limit even when re-inforced with SID. The second shows quite a different aspect of traffic speed. Unlike motorists, it was noticed that passing cyclists generally accelerated as they approached SID. A matter of pride perhaps.
