Dark Skies Over Cocking

Written by The Editor on .

Moon as seen from CockingThe Cocking Parish Council meeting on Monday 11th November included a short talk from a representative of the South Downs National Park Authority on the subject of the Authority's Dark Skies Project.

Clouds permitting, there is never a problem spotting the Moon; shown here as seen from the village.  However, the number of stars and other celestial bodies visible is an entirely different matter, depending greatly on levels of light pollution.  Luckily for us, the South Downs suffer relatively low levels compared with nearby urban areas, but there is still scope for improvement, especially if the National Park is to achieve the coveted status of a Dark Skies Reserve.
