Council says "Keep Well this Winter"

Written by Administrator on .

West Sussex Council Council writes

Dear Editor,

With the weather turning colder and winter approaching fast, the county council is highlighting some of the ways we can all help to stay well this winter.

If you are eligible for a free flu vaccination it is important that you take up this offer.  You are offered the vaccine for free if you are one of the groups of people who are most ‘at risk’ of catching the illness.  This is one of the most important things you can do to stay well and it may also help relieve pressure on the NHS this winter.  To find out if you’re in an ‘at risk’ group speak to your local participating pharmacy or GP.

I also want to remind your readers about the fantastic meals on wheels service available in West Sussex.

Eating at least one hot nutritious meal a day is very important for our health and wellbeing, particularly in colder weather.  Some people, due to illness, frailty or a disability, may find it difficult or impossible to shop, cook or heat a frozen meal. The home-delivered hot meals service may be the answer.  The national award winning meals on wheels service in West Sussex is run on behalf of the County Council by apetito. Meals are delivered at lunchtimes between 11-2, up to seven days a week – including Christmas Day.  To find out more about meals on wheels or to sign up for the service call 01903 718893 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Yours sincerely,

Urgent Call for Help with 2017 Bonfire

Written by Administrator on .

The Cocking Bonfire and Fireworks night will be on Saturday 28th October this year.  If you have enjoyed this event in previous years we need your help. In order for it to go ahead we rely solely on volunteers from the village. If we do not have enough volunteers we legally cannot run the night. Currently we do not have enough to proceed and if we do not get any more the fireworks will be cancelled this year.  We therefore would implore you to lend a hand and help keep this great community event running.  There are many jobs to be done - some large and some small and any help is appreciated. Some of the jobs you could help with are:

  • Building the bonfire the weekend before the event
  • Helping to set up tables, make mulled wine and get ready for the event
  • Collecting donations at the gate
  • Making cakes to sell
  • Helping behind the bar selling cakes and drinks
  • Marshaling whilst the fireworks are on
  • Tidying up the hall afterwards

This is a lot of work for just a handful of people, but the more that offer to help the less there is to do.  If you can help us with anything at all, please get in touch with us using the details below.

Church Fete 2017

Written by The Editor on .

This popular annual event takes place this year on Saturday 2nd September 2017 - Gates at Cocking Rectory, open at 2pm
We are hoping for a lovely sunny afternoon!
Last year saw the introduction of two new stalls: the Hot Dog Van, and Fitzcanes with their delicious ice-cream.
Amongst many others, there will of course be the usual super cake stall.
Please bring friends and family, and come along to share in this great village afternoon!
Help needed
All sorts of help are needed:
  • putting up the marquees on the Rectory lawn (August 24th at 6pm)
  • helping out on one of the many stalls or events during the afternoon
  • helping to clear up afterwards
Donations are welcome from Saturday August 26th: Please put all your donations in the large marquee.
Please bring your cake donations on the day from 10am.
Unfortunately we cannot accept very large items, or any electrical goods.
For offers of help and more information, please contact
