West Sussex Council Council writes
With the weather turning colder and winter approaching fast, the county council is highlighting some of the ways we can all help to stay well this winter.
If you are eligible for a free flu vaccination it is important that you take up this offer. You are offered the vaccine for free if you are one of the groups of people who are most ‘at risk’ of catching the illness. This is one of the most important things you can do to stay well and it may also help relieve pressure on the NHS this winter. To find out if you’re in an ‘at risk’ group speak to your local participating pharmacy or GP.
I also want to remind your readers about the fantastic meals on wheels service available in West Sussex.

CALLING ALL RESIDENTS OF COCKING
The Cocking Bonfire and Fireworks night will be on Saturday 28th October this year. If you have enjoyed this event in previous years we need your help. In order for it to go ahead we rely solely on volunteers from the village. If we do not have enough volunteers we legally cannot run the night. Currently we do not have enough to proceed and if we do not get any more the fireworks will be cancelled this year. We therefore would implore you to lend a hand and help keep this great community event running. There are many jobs to be done - some large and some small and any help is appreciated. Some of the jobs you could help with are:
- Building the bonfire the weekend before the event
- Helping to set up tables, make mulled wine and get ready for the event
- Collecting donations at the gate
- Making cakes to sell
- Helping behind the bar selling cakes and drinks
- Marshaling whilst the fireworks are on
- Tidying up the hall afterwards
This is a lot of work for just a handful of people, but the more that offer to help the less there is to do. If you can help us with anything at all, please get in touch with us using the details below.
